Brian Brown

Head of Consulting

Brian joined Defaqto in December 1998. At the beginning of 2011 he became Head of Consultancy and the lead consultant for the general insurance market. Brian’s key focus is helping providers and distributors with all aspects of product lifecycle management, from product concept and design through to launch and post-launch marketing support and product reviews. In the consulting team he acts as the lead consultant for the general insurance market.

Brian has held a number of roles at Defaqto, including building and developing its general insurance operation when he first joined the organisation. He was also responsible for designing and launching Defaqto’s Star Ratings, which has expanded to the 42 different product ratings that exist today. Brian then became head of Defaqto’s team of Insight Analysts, where among other areas he was responsible for the Star Ratings process, writing a suite of market reports and guides, as well as acting as a media spokesperson for Defaqto. In 2009, Brian became Head of Research at Defaqto.

Brian’s background is in general insurance, having joined Defaqto from RSA where for five years he was their market intelligence manager for personal and commercial insurances.

In his spare time Brian has been a City Councillor and Chair of school governors in Liverpool, and is now a parent governor at the Cooper School in Bicester. He holds a BSc in Physics from the University of Sheffield, and recently completed a Certificate in Finance and Business from the ICAEW.
