'Earned' not 'entered'
Unlike awards that rely on submissions, Defaqto's Insurer of the Year Awards are uniquely impartial. We proactively assess products in the market, using our objective, data-led Star Ratings methodology, to identify stand-out providers with high-performing products that demonstrate a sustained commitment to customer value.

A signal of excellence, proven through data
Based on robust product analysis and consumer insight, the Insurer of the Year Awards spotlight the providers delivering the strongest balance between service and quality in home, car, travel and pet insurance.
For those named Winner or Highly Commended, the badge becomes a valuable commercial asset when licensed.
Using our trusted Star Ratings methodology and informed by responses from over 26,600 consumers, they are objective, transparent, and meaningful.

Frequently asked questions
1. How are insurers assessed for the Awards?
There's no submission or entry process. We continuously assess products in the market using our Star Ratings methodology, so the Awards are earned, not entered.
2. What happens if we're named Highly Commended rather than Winner?
Highly Commended insurers are still eligible to license the badge and access the same promotional package as Winners.
3. What's included if we license the Award?
A press release, a Defaqto website listing with judge commentary, badge files for digital and print, social media assets, an invitation to the prizegiving, and a winner's plaque.
4. How much does it cost to license the Award?
Because every business is different, we don't publish set pricing on our website. Book a call with your Relationship Manager or our sales team, and we'll talk you through the options for your business.
5. When will the 2026-27 winners be announced?
Results were announced on 1 August, with the prizegiving on 16 September at the Defaqto Provider Conference 2026. The winning and highly commended insurance providers for 2026-27 are:
- Defaqto Home Insurer of the Year 2026: Lloyds Bank (winner), LV=, Aviva, NatWest and Nationwide Building Society
- Defaqto Car Insurer of the Year 2026: Aviva (winner), Saga, Tesco Insurance, Churchill and Admiral
- Defaqto Travel Insurer of the Year 2026: InsureAndGo (winner), AA, Holiday Extras, Post Office Money and Coverwise
- Defaqto Pet Insurer of the Year 2026: Sainsbury's Bank (winner), Animal Friends, Pet Protect, PDSA and Tesco Insurance
6. What other awards does Defaqto give out?
Defaqto also runs the Defaqto Banking Award, recognising banks and building societies with consistently competitive savings rates. Our Star Ratings aren't an award, but they're an independent, data-led way to identify quality financial products across the market.
